It would seem though all the different lore in the game world that there are many different setups for how a pod pilot interacts with his/her crew. In some chronicles, for example, the pod pilot is almost never seen or heard and it seems like the crew simply do what their computer screen tells them to without question. In other occasions the captains voice is heard or they even make appearances on their ship to their crew (while docked). This leads me to think how a pod pilot communicates to his crew is purely to his/her preference and leads to some interesting ideas.
For example, on my bridge I envision a holographic display in the middle of a circular room in which my character gently floats in serine beauty. From there she can talk directly to the bridge crew. Also at key points throughout the ship may be other holographic terminals in which she can communicate to the crew as a whole. I like to think that my character would have an inspiring presence and give my crew the impression I care for them (the truth of that is up to debate).
I wonder if that is within the realm of game cannon and if anyone else has ideas on how their interaction with their crew is.

Well, primarily my ship I use is a Legion fitted for exploration above all else. I would think my standing crew is roughly 750 or so, which is too many for Thgil Goldcore to get to know each and every one. I feel a bridge is important since, dispite being a capsoleer, I'm still one person with one voice. It would be hard for me to talk to every section within my ship barking different orders. I would easily imagine that there would be sectional heads whom command individual units aboard the ship.
Also, since my ship often 'boldly goes where no one has gone before,' I would think I would have a large complement of students and researchers from universities aboard studying under extreme circumstances. I also know my ship is mostly Amarr loyalists, its part of my recruiting process. (and of course, minmitar slaves who are being indoctrinated with religion)

Not well I don't think. Although they likely dont realize what the mission is asside from 'guard the gate and look for X.' It's only when its too late when they decide to go for the escape pods... This is all provided you arent kind enough to drop off your crew at a station beforehand!

I dont think a bridge crew is useless in the eve setting. A cruiser with some hundread people and a battleship with a few thousand (and I assume capital ships are minature cities) would need a centrilized command. The pod pilot deals with the ship and what it does, but I think you would require command officers to direct individual crew in any given section.
The bridge crew would deal with the crew and parhaps very little with the pod pilot themselves barring something going wrong (such as sabotage). I doubt many pod pilots would like to organize shifts or hire each and every crew member by themselves after all. So you'll need some senior staff to handle these tasks.

Yeah, but its fun seeing what other people had in mind for their ships.
